First Race Of The Season - Varsity Girls Ranked 1st & Boys Tied for 1st!

The initial races of the season hold a unique excitement. Our dedication to training and race preparation was evident as we celebrated podium finishes at the first Varsity Slalom Race on Friday night January 10th on Race Trail at Mountain Creek. The girls dominated the event, clinching first place and acquiring six victories. Meanwhile, the Varsity boys team also had an impressive performance, securing second place in the scored competition against Conference A with six wins and one loss, ultimately finishing third overall on the podium.

Our Varsity girls' team celebrated impressive results with three finishes in the top ten, triumphing in the slalom race with a total time of 5:15.28. Vernon High School took second place at 5:27.33, while Morristown Beard rounded out the top three with a time of 5:37.84. Notable performances came from Sunny Young (4th), Captain Devon Dobbs (6th), Ava Dyrsten (7th), and Kate Agudo (24th), all of whom played a crucial role in this achievement.

On the Varsity boys' side, three racers also secured top-ten finishes, leading the team to a commendable second-place performance over Conference A with a combined time of 4:21.83. Don Bosco emerged as the overall champion with a time of 3:58.77, followed by Delbarton in second at 4:12.61. Key contributors for the Sparta Boys Ski Team included Patrick Fitzsimmons (7th), Ryan Grycuk (8th), Finn Kowalski (10th), and Captain George Flint (23rd).

The results from the first conference race have positioned our girls' and boys' ski teams at the top of the state rankings, the girl's team is tied for first place with Ridgewood and yhe boys' team is tied for first place with Delbarton. This marks an impressive beginning to the season.

Last night Jan 13th at Mountain Creek on Kamikaze Trail, our junior varsity athletes faced off against every JV ski team in the state, and they all rose to the occasion, overcoming their nerves to successfully complete both runs. The JV girls ski team, despite being one member short, took on a ghost time and secured 4th place. Meanwhile, the boys JV ski team finished 9th overall. Ridge High School emerged victorious, claiming the top spots for both the girls' and boys' teams.

Great job team! Your hard work is paying off, so let's build on this success and keep pushing forward!

Our next race is on Friday, January 17th, at 5 PM at Mount Peter. Both the Varsity and JV ski teams will be racing against the other high school ski teams within our Conference B.
