Being honored with the Ski Coach of the Year title for four consecutive years is an extraordinary achievement that fills me with gratitude. This recognition is not just a personal milestone; it reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our league.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to my fellow coaches in the NJISRA, whose unwavering commitment plays a vital role in advancing alpine ski racing. It is a privilege to share this accolade with such an inspiring group of individuals. I am especially grateful to the remarkable athletes I have coached, as their passion and determination make this journey worthwhile.
The fact that I received this award in a season where both our boys' and girls' ski teams were recognized as Outstanding Sportsmanship Teams is truly special. This award is a testament to our collective efforts, and I couldn't be prouder of my team for their accomplishments and sportsmanship.
The Ski Coach of the Year award is decided through a vote by the head ski coaches of the New Jersey Interscholastic Ski Racing Association (NJISRA) at the annual coaches' dinner held at the end of the season.
The 2025 NJISRA Outstanding Sportsmanship Title has been awarded to both the Sparta Boys' and Girls' Ski Teams. This marks the fifth consecutive year that a Sparta alpine race team has been honored with the Outstanding Sportsmanship title. The last occasion when both the boys' and girls' teams were awarded the Sportsmanship title was in 2023. Throughout the years, the Sparta Ski Team has established a reputation for good sportsmanship by winning graciously, showing respect to opponents, and accepting defeat with grace.
Congratulations, Spartans! Winning the NJISRA 2025 Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for both the boys and girls ski teams is an incredible honor that brings me great pride. Over the years, the Sparta ski team has built a strong reputation for exemplary sportsmanship, and this award reflects our commitment to a positive mindset, ethical behavior, and respect for others. I could not be more proud of everyone's efforts.
True sportsmanship transcends mere victories; it embodies the spirit of giving your all, showing respect, and maintaining integrity. Your remarkable behavior has garnered admiration from other coaches, officials, racers and parents, showcasing not just your athletic prowess but also your commendable character and values. Your commitment to sportsmanship is a source of inspiration for others, and I eagerly anticipate your future achievements. Once again, congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
Best regards,
Coach Rod Calafati
